The University of Debrecen is announcing a call for applications under the Pannonia Scholarship Program to facilitate research-related mobility for faculty members for the 2026–27 academic year.
1. Aim of the programme
To support the research-related mobility of faculty, researchers, and staff members of the University of Debrecen to host institutions abroad.
2. Scope of the Call for Proposals
Successful applicants—faculty members, researchers, and staff—will conduct research activities at a host institution abroad for a period of 2 to 60 days.
The host institution can not be in the applicant’s country of residence.

3. Eligible activities
- Research activities at a host institution abroad (2–60 days). Subject to available funding, the maximum eligible duration is generally 10 days, except in particularly justified cases.
Participants receive funding (a scholarship) to carry out their research activities abroad. The amount of the scholarship depends on the duration of the educational activity and the destination country. Applicants should note that the grant does not necessarily cover the costs of travel and living abroad; it merely contributes to the implementation of research activities abroad, so additional funding may be required.
If the applicant is an employee of the host university, or if the host university covers all or part of the costs of travel and/or living expenses, the participant is not eligible for the scholarship.
4. Who can apply?
Any person who meets the following criteria is eligible to submit an application:
- a Hungarian citizen (or a person residing in Hungary with a long-term residence permit or refugee status);
- a full-time, part-time, adjunct, or volunteer instructor, researcher, or staff member at the University of Debrecen.
5. Deadline and Method for Submitting Applications:
The deadline for submitting applications is September 30, 2026. Depending on the availability of funds during the academic year, a supplementary call for applications may be issued.
Applications may be submitted via the University of Debrecen’s online portal by fully completing the online application form and uploading the listed attachments.
Attention! When filling out the form, be sure to select the “Pannónia STR” option in the “Stay type” and “Framework” fields!
Incomplete or non-compliant applications will be rejected.
6. Documents to be attached:
- a research plan approved by the dean/department chair/institute director, detailing the research activities to be carried out during the mobility period
- a letter of acceptance
- a document certifying language proficiency in the working language of the research activities
- a resume
7. Additional documents required to enter into the grant agreement:
If the grant is awarded, the University of Debrecen will enter into a grant agreement with the applicant, the terms of which are set forth in the following documents:
- A mobility agreement signed by all three parties (the applicant and representatives of the sending and receiving institutions) that outlines the activities planned during the mobility period and the expected outcomes (Downloadable template: https://internationaloffice.unideb.hu/en/useful-information
- a signed travel authorization
- a bank account statement containing the following information: account holder’s name, bank name and SWIFT code, IBAN, and the currency of the bank account
- an European Health Insurance Card or valid travel insurance
8. Evaluation of submitted applications:
Applications are evaluated by the Center for International Relations and the faculty mobility coordinators, in consultation with the head of the organizational unit responsible for research and taking into account the relevant evaluation criteria of each faculty as well as the available resources.
Applicants will be notified by email whether their application has been approved or rejected.
9. Additional conditions
Following the scholarship period, the faculty member/researcher must prepare a research report detailing the activities and results of the mobility period. The report must be approved by the faculty member’s/researcher’s department chair, institute director, or the head of academic affairs.
An applicant may undertake no more than one mobility period per academic year with support from the program, unless they are participating in a group study trip with a group of students (e.g., a Blended Intensive Program (BIP)), during which they also perform teaching duties at the host institution.
